This is Austin Samba favorite is a FREE EVENT for the whole family, located at the spectacular performance space at Central Market on North Lamar Boulevard. If you want to hold on to the spirit of the season, wear your Day of the Dead costume and face paint, grab a snack or beverage, and join in with the dancing, music, and celebration. We will be performing two sets: one at 6:00pm, and another at 7:45pm, so come on out to celebrate and enjoy the festivities!

Austin Samba brings its signature Brazilian drumming and dance to Zilker Hillside Theater with its hip-shaking 2019 show: “Carnavália.” Featuring music by Beth Carvalho, Os Tribalistas and Caetano Veloso, Carnavália is sure to get you on your feet and is a can’t-miss part of springtime in Austin. We'll also provide a dance lesson and, as always, a dance party. All for free.

Dia de los Muertos Street Fair and Parade at Historic Market Square

Celebrate Dia de los Muertos at the Historic Market Square with a special procession Saturday at 5 p.m. and Sunday at 1 p.m. by Las Monas! Be a part of the fun with children's activities, live music, food booths and arts and crafts vendors!

Sunday's 1 pm parade and processional will be led by Austin Samba.

MERMAID SOCIETY PARADE IN SAN MARCOS, TX

The SMTX Mermaid Parade is created to strengthen community engagement and celebrate San Marcos’ unique river and art culture. Leading the parade is Austin Samba and Las Monas de San Antonio bringing their brand of “radical creativity, fantasy and imagination” to the parade with a sizzling combination of rhythm, dance, movement, color, joy and . . . giant mermaid puppets! The parade will feature floats, marchers, music and “all things San Marcos.”

Serving as the mascot for river stewardship, the arts and our unique cultural heritage, the San Marcos Mermaid will make her return debut during this ‘Texas original’ celebrating San Marcos’ vibrant community.

This year we pay tribute to New Orleans (The Big Easy), the most African of American cities, the birthplace of American music and home to Mardi Gras one of the most famous pre-Lenten celebrations in the world. We compare and contrast New Orleans and Rio whose African roots gave rise to samba, the national music of Brazil, and the Brazilian version of Carnaval, also one of the most famous in the world. 

In this show, we view the fabulous music of New Orleans through Brazilian optics layering on Brazilian rhythms and dance to produce an aural and visual fusion that is irresistible. It will be hard to stay seated. This is dance music front to back. 

This year, our theme samba (samba enredo) was written for us by Rio composer Edson "Baby" de Oliveira. It is an original samba about New Orleans and will be featured at Carnaval Brasieiro, as well as Austin Samba's performances at Zilker Hillside Theatre and Stateside Theater at the Paramount.
